Artlink Inishowen Residency: Susanne Stitch - Even If We Think We Know Things

20th March - 9th April 2012

An exhibition by Susanne Stich including film, photography and text, runs March 20 – April 9 at Fort Dunree. The exhibition centres around the film Even If We Think We Know Things (2012), anew work produced during an Artlink Artist residency, which explores aspects of kindness, including its ambiguity and importance.

Combining medieval chant and contemporary dance with everyday imagery and a voiceover, it features performances by countertenor Mark Chambers and dancer/choreographer Siobhan Simpson. It was shot in large parts in East Inishowen, Co. Donegal, with some additional footage recorded in Paris.

Also on show is the film Insider (2010), which revisits a 1970s German dolls’ house and was recorded over three years, exploring repetition, recollection and play with a soundtrack
by German artist Franz Fendt.

There will be a special screening and live performance by countertenor Mark Chambers and dancer Siobhan Simpson Sunday, March 25 at 3p.m. at Fort Dunree, Inishowen.

Susanne Stich is from Nürnberg, Germany, living in Ireland. Interests as an artist involve both image-making (film, video & photography) & writing (short stories). In 2010, she completed a PhD with Visual Practice examining the "Visibilities of Childhood in Moving Image", combining art-based methods with recent discourse from cultural geography, visual anthropology & sociology. She has taught part-time in the School of Art & Design at University of Ulster since 2001 & is a member of the curatorial board at VOID gallery, Derry. She also works regularly with children, designing, coordinating and facilitating workshops in lens-based media and story-telling.
